Flash holiday e-card

I should have something more entertaining to say about this, other than it was hard;) I still have a lot to learn about Flash. But fate helped by making Flash quit at about 12:30 this morning so I had to re-create a lot of this. So, I not only learned how to do things faster in Flash by repetition, I also re-learned to save every 5 mintues! Anyway, hope you like it...any suggestions are welcome! It does need some work, but I'm going to have to learn more about Flash before I can tweak lots of the things I want to... Oh! And the music is "Skating" by the Vince Guaraldi Trio, from A Charlie Brown Christmas, which I hope you knew already.

Reindeer, etc.

Here are a couple of sketches I used to make the reindeer for my holiday e-card assignment. I sketched them on paper, then scanned them in so I could create them in Illustrator, then move them into Flash.

Illustrator for final assignement

Here's the illustrator I picked for my final assignment - the holiday e-card. His name is Peter Campofiore. I really like his simple backgrounds and whimsical characters. Here's his portfolio.

Baby steps

Okay, my first attempt at kinetic typography in Flash. It's a work in progress, as usual! This is a first draft, so there's work to be done. Let me know what you think needs help...

Interface part 3

Here's the third design, based on a print ad. It's mostly dark - black, gray and red seemed to be good colors for a venue that features a lot of angry punk music. Looking back, the photo I put at the top might have gone better with the one based on the painting.....

Interface design part 2

Here's my second design, inspired by a painting by Wassily Kandinsky. The colors are similar to the Psycho poster. I wanted more abstract shapes in the design, but I decided that while that might have looked kind of cool, it ultimately detracted from a cleaner, more usable design, so I toned them down. Maybe some shapes in the background with a degree of transparency?

Web interface design

So here's my first crack at web design for this class. Using something every day should prepare you to know something about how to design it, right? Not exactly. It wasn't as easy as it looked! I have lots to learn. In the end, my three different designs were pretty similar. I think I did manage to get everything we were supposed to on each site, though. Including the theater's beautiful* logo. (*Does not actually mean beautiful).
So, here's my first one, which I think is my favorite. It's inspired by a poster of the movie Psycho.

Here's my third idea for the Emerson Theater. Most of the links on the left, with a scrolling window for the upcoming shows. The inspiration for color comes from a print ad for paint.

Here's my second sketch for The Emerson Theater site. With inspiration by Wassily Kandinsky.

Our latest assignment for CGT 251 is to redesign the website for The Emerson Theater. We're supposed to have three designs. My first will use a window to rotate info on upcoming shows instead of having them all on the first page. The inspiration for this one is the poster for the movie Psycho. Here's my really rough preliminary sketch, and the poster that gave me the inspiration for the color scheme.

This is my finished illustration for our Illustrationfriday.com assignment. The theme was "pattern." My keyword was "shame." It needs some tweaking, which is incidentally what I'm thinking the new name of this blog should be, but this is more or less finished. I'd like to add more of a 3-D feel to the dog's body with some shading, but I couldn't figure out the best way to do that in the time I had. The wallpaper and the rug both represent patterns in the literal sense here, but I'm guessing our canine friend has a pattern of bad behavior, too. And he does seem to be conveying some shame in his eyes. Or, maybe he just hates the rug?

Really, really rough drafts

These are my really preliminary sketches for the IllustrationFriday.com "Pattern" project. My key word is shame. So, I need to make an illustration that illustrates pattern and shame. Here are some early thoughts and jotted down sketches. They're super light - but hopefully you can see enough to figure out what they are...

Bonus edition

Decided to add some color to the main logo - used the same IU-ish maroon on the edges, but put each of the colors from the logos in the middle. Looks spicy, I think...

Last one - wouldn't fit in the other post!

The Final Countdown

No, not the awesome song by Europe, but the countdown to turning in my first assignment of the semester for CGT 251! Here's the end result - each logo in three sizes, with bonus grayscale versions! There are two versions of the Interior Design Technology logo, simply because it looks more like the others without the r, so I wanted to do one that way just to see how it looked.

Here are the latest versions of the ever-evolving logo assignment. I'm pretty happy with the design - I wanted something professional and clean, but something that conveys creativity, which hopefully the right-justified text and different colors do. A rectangular shape seemed more professional to me, but the rounded corners make it not so harsh. The colors need some tweaking, but these made for a cool set in the color picker I used. The one at the bottom is the alternate of the INT logo, with the R. I'm not sure if I like the text inside or outside of the shape...any opinions?

A few more tweaks, and a complete set of logos for each discipline (bonus extra for intr)

New logo attempt

I've been playing with the logo design for the Design and Communications Technology department. I went with something lower case this time, and tried to come up with a distinctive lettermark that would be recognizable without the words. I've played around with the colors, and the placement of the words. What do you think?

Logo rough drafts

This is my first attempt at a logo for the Department of Design and Communication Technology and each of its programs. The color may change to a blue, or may be tweaked to match the IU/IUPUI maroon. And I may totally toss these out in favor of something else! Hope you like 'em!
